C.J.C. lifts stakes by $9570
The Canterbury Jockey Club has increased stakes by $9570 for its three-day Easter meeting this year. The club will provide $5OOO for a new feature race, the South Island Threey e a r-old Championship Stakes, which will be run on the second day of the meeting, April 13. This will be run at set weights over 2000 m. An increase of $l4OO brings the value of the Warstep Stakes on the final day. April 16. to $4OOO. Minor races at the meeting have been increased to ; carry a minimum of $l5OO. ; The gap on the first-day -•programme left by the trans- • fer of the Warstep Stakes to i the final day will be filled by - a 2000 m race for classes 4 : and 5. ’ The two-year-old race run in past years on the second ) day has given way to a 1200 m race for classes 3 and . 4. :l Another newcomer, on the -I final day, will be for class 5 'over 1800 m.
