Schoolboys to take on heroes
A chance for promising schoolboy cricketers in Christchurch to oppose some of the province’s top cricketers has been arranged by the St Albans Cricket Club. The Dominion BreweriesSt Albans schoolboy double wicket tournament
will take place at Hagley Oval next Sunday, commencing at 10.30. The players will be competing for the Ken Wadsworth Memorial Trophy.
The pre-lunch session will comprise eight games using two wickets and after lunch only one wicket will be used for quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final.
The trophy will be presented by the Canterbury Shell series captain. Maurice Ryan. This is the third such tournament, last year’s was won by the late Ken Wadsworth and Bumside-West opening bowler Gerald Cummins, then of Christchurch Boys’ High SchooL Over half the Canterbury Shell series squad will be competing along with 16 schoolboys.
