N.Z. deficit ‘too high’
The Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) says that the decline of up to 20 per cent in New Zealand’s terms of Trade will be reversed in the [“medium to long term.” In a speech prepared for [the opening of the annual, conference of associated [trustee savings banks in I ; Wellington, he said salvation [would come as farm products moved slowly back to a more normal relationship] [with the prices of the indus-l trial products imported by I New Zealand. ; The nation's externa! deficit was “still too high [for comfort” and “the slight 'increase in real activity in The December quarter cannot [be permitted to accelerate,” [said Mr Muldoon.
