$42,700 from appeal
The amount collected in Christchurch by the Society for the Intellectually Handicapped in its annua! appeal on Monday night stands at $42,700, but the final figure will not be known until all donations have been received from the country areas. The Christchurch administrator (Mr D. E. Bullen) said this collection figure was about the same at this [time last year, but he hopes lit will rise to about $51,000. “The Christchurch figure was not the best we have had, but this was probably because of the poor weather and because some areas in Redwood and Hoon Hay were missed.” he said. He asked any one who was .missed yesterdav to leave their envelopes at any chemist. or send them to the society at P.O. Box 1729. Christchurch. More than $600,000 was ccHlected by the society nationally. This was more than 12 per cent above the [amount collected on appeal day last year reports the Press Association. 1 Some final branch returns [have yet to be received by the society.
