N.Z. confirms Games entry

| NZPA Edmonton New Zealand has confirmed its participation in the 1978 Commonwealth Games, scheduled for next August in Edmonton, Agence FrancePresse reported. So far eight countries have officially agreed to compete at Edmonton: Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Canada, England, Scotland, Jersey, and Papua New Guinea. The organisers of the Games have refused to postpone the August 3 start despite a request from the Supreme Council for Sport in

Africa that this date follows too soon after the third AllAfrican Games which ends at Algiers on July 28.

A statement from the organisers estimates that SI2M will be spent on sports installations and amenities at Edmonton, plus another SBM for Canadian Federal Government services during the Games.

It is hoped that these sums will be met from the profits of Lotto-Canada, the national lottery set up to defray the large debts still outstanding from last summer's Olympic Games at Montreal.
