Jumping cup to Canterbury

The Canterbury show jumping team scored an easy win in the inter-provin-cial competition for the Rutherford Cup at the fifth circuit jumping show held at Knottingly Park, Waimate. The team of Freddy (Miss J. Cresswell), Anzac (D. Letham) Glenmist (Mrs S. Cromie) and Salvador (J. Costello) scored Canterbury’s first win in this coveted trophy for many years. The most promising combination of the show was the Christchurch rider, Miss Jill Woodham and her chestnut thoroughbred by Jekyll, Aldergrove. Joining the A grade ranks after Dunedin, Miss Woodham and Aldergrove were the best of the Canterbury combinations, taking second place to Graeme Mcßobbie’s McLoud in the Wills Grand Prix. I McLoud, a North Island Hearn member and a clear 'leader in the Equiben points i prize, had four faults after jtwo rounds over a long and (difficult course. Aldergrove i finished with 8J faults, followed by the Otago com- ■ bination of Persian Shah and ! Miss Fiona Tosh with 12. Another upgrading after

two wins and one placing in B grade events was the North Islander, Intrepid, ridden by Ross Wickham. Intrepid again jumped well to take fourth place in the A grade Grand Piix and win the local points prize for the day.

The Pony championship jump table A resulted in a win for Geoffrey Heard and Expertise; they had the only clear round in the first jump-off. This Christchurch combination also set a scorching time to win the Take Your Own Line earlier in the day, from Sue Thompson’s three ponies, which were ridden by Peter McCall./ Miss Thompson broke a' leg on the first day of the show. A Kaiapoi rider, Diane Topp, won the table A event on Sunset, (while the Have a Gamble resulted in a win for Sue (Thompson’s Blaze followed by Sunset, with the Thompson ponies Calvados and iKiana next in line. ! The Christchurch entry of ; Hilary Holstein and Yeti (worked well to win the Medium Dressage competition. i Results: HORSES i Wills Grand Prix: G. Me- ; Robbie’s McLoud (N.I. team) 1,
