High-weight to Darnley Fair
From J. J. BOYLE 1 Te Rapa i |1 Only minutes after her ar-;' rival at Te Rapa for the Royal meeting yesterday the i Queen saw the former South • Islander, Darnley Fair, win t the Sandown High-weight in a spectacular finish. Darnley Fair has done much of his racing in the ; South Island but Mr J. T. Dellar placed the six-year-old with the Takanini ji trainer, Ray Wallace, last! season. Darnley Fair led up to 1 ; yesterday's win, his first in the North Island, with a !
third and a second. He had; to show dogged qualities for [his victory yesterday. He! 'was ridden from a trailing position and his determination contributed more to his victory than his powers of acceleration. Heni and Hunter’s Joy joined in in the straight to leave the result in doubt to : the very last stride. The • margins separating the first three were only half a head and a nose. Heni finished gamely for her close second but found an equal measure of courage in the resistance put up by Darnley Fair.
