'Pen friend’ met at last
PA Auckland Miles Roelants, a small boy in a large wheelchair, met a “pen friend” at Ellerslie yesterday — the
Queen. Three years ago, Miles waited patiently with his mother for the' Queen to appear at the Wilson Home in Auckland. But a sight of Royalty eluded the seven-year-old boy. “Mum got so sick of waiting, we drove home,” he said. Not to be denied, Miles wrote to the Queen and complained. He got a reply, and the normally self-assured young man admits. “I nearly fainted.”
Yesterday, Miles received satisfaction. Nearly submerged in his wheelchair, he peered up at the Queen as she stopped to talk to a cluster of crippled children.
“I didn’t see much of her, but what I saw was prettv good,” he said.
