More price rises

Rises In food prices have not stopped yet. Within the next month or two flourbased products, tea, cocoa and chocolate products are

expected to cost more. Although price rises were not coming through as quickly as they had immediately after the , rice freeze ended, several increases were expected soon, said the sales manager of I.G.A. Supervalue (Mr B. Johnston). Goods using flour such as cake mixes, puddings and macaroni, would prob-

ably increase in price and after the leap in cocoa prices chocolate products would soon cost more, he said.

The cost of plain biscuits rose in January and it was likely that fancy biscuits, particularly chocolate biscuits, would also increase in price, he said. Milo, instant coffee and coffee beans, cocoa and one line of chocolate tablets had already risen. Other chocolate goods, particularly confectionery. would have to increase, he said.

Several brands of tea. including Choysa and Bushells, had already increased in price anti others were bound to follow, said the assistant sales manager of J. Rattray and Sons (Mr B. 1.. Duncan).

The general manager ot Foodstuffs Christchurch. Ltd (Mr R. W. Thomas) said many manufacturers would wait for a wage-order decis ion before applying lor price increases because wage rises would have an important effect on their costs.
