Royal visit next week
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will arrive in New Zealand next Tuesday. They will land from the Royal Yacht Britannia in Auckland at 9.40 a.m. They will leave Auckland that night and arrive in Whangarei in the Britannia the next morning. On the same day they will fly to Hamilton and then back tui Auckland. On the Thursday they will | fly from Auckland to Tau-1 ranga, Rotorua, Hastings and! rejoin the Royal Y'acht at I Napier. The next morning j they will fly from Napier to; New Plymouth, Taupo and Gisborne where they will! again rejoin the Royal Yacht at night. The Queen and the Duke' will leave Gisborne by airj for Wellington on Saturday.! February' 26, calling at Palmerston North on the! way. In Wellington they will; attend a dinner partv at the: Prime Minister’s residence on; Sunday. On Monday the Queen will
open Parliament and also officially open the executive wing of the new Parliament Buildings. They will leave Wellington by air on Tuesday. March 1, at 10.35 a.m. and land at Blenheim before reaching Dunedin at 11.20 a.m. They will stay in Dunedin overnight. On the Wednesday they will fly to Invercargill, Queenstown, and Timaru, where they are to arrive at 4.05 p.m. In Timaru the Queen and the Duke will attend a Royal anniversary carnival and a civic reception at the Chateau Commodore Hotel. They will leave Timaru the next day at 10.20 a.m., and fly to Hokitika. They will travel by car from Hokitika to Grevmouth and attend a civic luncheon at the Recreation Reserve. After returning to Hokitika they will fly to Christchurch at 2.55 p.m. The Queen and the Duke will arrive at Christchurch Airport at 3.40 p.m.; in the
evening they will attend a Royal trotting meeting at Addington Raceway. During their stay in Christchurch they will live on board the; Royal Yacht. On Friday. March 4. they! will attend a luncheon at | Lincoln College and view the! research projects there. All 2 p.m. the Queen will leave! the college for a visit to| Princess Margaret Hospital and at 2.15 the Duke will! leave for Canterbury Museum where he will open the new] wing and Antarctic Centre. ! In the evening the Queen ’ and the Duke will attend a' Rova) concert in the Town! Hall, Both the Queen and the! Duke are free from official engagements on the Saturday! and on the Sunday up to 8.30 ! p.m., when they arrive at the Chateau Commodore Hotel ; for the State farewell banquet. They will leave New Zea-, land by air from Christchurch! the next morning at 10.30 amt, for Australia.
