Service for admiral
A memorial service for' Rear-Admiral George Dufek. who died in the United I States last week at the age of 74. will be held in Christchurch Cathedral today at 12.30 p.m. Admiral Dufek was the commanding officer of the United States Navy Antarctic Task Force between 1955 and 1959. The present commanding officer of the United States Naw Support Force in Antarctica (Captain Claude | Nordhill) will attend the ser-| vice, and the president of the ■ New Zealand Antarctic Society (Mr J. M. Caffin) will I read the eulogy. The Bishop of Christ- j church (the Rt Rev. W. A.! Pyatt) and the support force! chaplain (the Rev. Charles : Lapp) will also be present. During the service the i flags of the United States, j New Zealand, the United; States Navy, and the National Science Foundation• will be carried into the; Cathedral. The service will be con-: ducted by the Dean of I Christchurch (the Very Rev.! M. L. Underhill).
