Good trial for Manuahi

I Special correspondent Hastings Manuahi, preparing for the coming Wellington meeting, and Irish Duke and Taj Rani, candidates lor Marton on Saturday, i were the stars in a reasonably ■ quiet session at the Hastings [ track yesterday. Many of the horses at the I track were restricted to pacework in preparation for the Pahiatua meeting today. Bartelle, Ultraviolet, and Stir were among three of these and they all looked particularly good. The undoubted star of the session was the grey two-year-old

Manuahi. She galloped on the plough and reeled off 800 m in 49.95ec. the last 600 taking 36.45ec. Manuahi has won her last two starts and looks above average. Irish Duke (Plant) was striding out well at the end of 1000 m on the plough in Imin 2.7 sec, the last 800 in 50sec and the final 600 in 37.35ec. Taj Rani was partnered by Piler in her 800 m gallop on the No. 1 grass and was clearly travelling the better at the finish. She ran the distance in 51.5 sec, the last 600 in 37.75ec. Cloudy Lease, looking very strong, was sent 600 m on the plough and ran home strongly in 36.1 sec. Dandaleith was assigned to 1000 m with Trialist and ran home in Imin 4.2 sec. the 800 in 51.4 sec, and the final 600 in 38.8 sec. Kinneir was let to stride out over 800 m on the course proper and ran 50.3 sec. He ran the first 200 in 12.1 sec and the last 600 in 38.2 sec. Star Band and Gillana were let to run 1000 m in Imin ssec and Yell was sent 600 in 41.3 sec.
