Thai Government forces are reported to have opened their promised offensive against communist guerrillas in southern Thailand, launching air and artillery strikes against suspected strongholds in the Banthad Mountains. On Friday, the Thai military authorities gave the guerrillas an ultimatum to surrender within 24 hours or face renewed Government attacks.—Bangkok.
