PA Whangarei A select committee hearing on the Human Rights Bill, scheduled for Februarv.
should be postponed several months to allow women’s organisations time to prepare submissions, the Auckland Workers’ Educational Association decided at its summer school at Whangarei.
The introduction of new legislation without sufficient time for public study and submissions was noted with concern by those attending a final joint meeting at the school, said the Auckland
president (Mr John Colqu- ! houn). i Examples given had been [bills on trade practices, ■ industrial relations, retail I shop trading hours, matrj- [ rnonial properties, and the ! Commerce Amendment Act. In some cases less than a month had been allowed for ! submissions to be prepared, Mr Colquhoun said. The meeting decided to seek the support of other W.E.A. groups and the Auckland Trades Council in having the Human Rights Bill hearing delayed and in expressing general concern to the Government at the apparent trend.
