Lister misses golf record

PA Auckland John.-Lister failed by only $156.80 to set a record fori earnings on the New Zealand golf circuit this summer..

Lister won the last three 72 hole tournaments on the circuit to lift his earnings to $15,737.20, just short of the $15,894 Bill Brask collected in 1975-76. But Lister was comfortably the top earner this summer, heading off Bob Charles by more than $6OOO. The other big winner of the circuit was Bob Shearer (Australia), who won $7OOO in his only tournament appearance—the New Zealand Airlines Classic which he won comfortably at Russley. The value of a victory is reflected in the earnings of Bill Longmuir (England). He

won the first tournament of the tour, the Southland. Classic, and $4OOO, b«t the next four tournaments brought him only $412.50. A total of $164,000. was at stake in the seven 72-hole tournaments on the circuit.
