Gas to cost more
Increases of from 6 to 9 per cent w’ill be made >n the Christchurch Gas Comnany’s tariffs from January I. The new tariff is a national one for manufactured gas undertakings, and was approved by the Department of Trade and Industry. “The increases arise from the Government's energy pricing policy,’’ said the Christchurch company’s secretary (Mr L. A. Watson). “The price of coal has gone up, and the Government subsidy has been reduced.’’
The company’s A rate to domestic consumers will rise to $3.50 per 1000 cubic feet, less a discount of Ic. The domestic storage water-heating rate will be 83.09 net, plus a tariff charge of 50c a month. Hornby consumers will pay an extra 50c net a month.
