Finn yacht series starts
, PA Nelson : Two skippers have emerged • as likely contenders for the . Finn class yacht champion- ■ ships being held this week in Tasman Bay, off Nelson. They are Paul Rudling ! (Auckland) in Finific, and Jonty Farmer (Rotorua), Quest. ! Yesterday morning’s race i was sailed in a moderate (south-westerly over an eight- ! mile Olympic course. Rudling (was first, Farmer second; (third and fourth places were taken by Aucklanders Barry 7 (Moreley (Infinity) and John jWearn (Jolifin). The wind freshened yester-
day afternoon for the second race. There were a number of casualties and 27 of the 35 yacht fleet finished the race Again Rudling won and Farmer was second. Morlej came home fourth and the Christchurch skipper, B Winters, was third.
The programme of seven races, six to count, continues today with one starting at 2 p.m. Similar south-westerly gusty conditions are expected.
The Nelson Yacht Club, host for the series, hopes to sail seven races in all with a rest day on New Year’s Day and with the series finishing on January 2.
