Otago women humbled
PA. Dunedin India gave Otago a lesson in spin bowling on the first day of a two-day women’s cricket match at Logan Park yesterday in a rain-affected day of less than, two hours of play.
In a mere 67 minutes India demolished the Otago [batting line-up for a mere 36 runs. Vicki McGregor, of Canteribury, top-scored during the ■day in the New Zealand tournament play, also at Dunedin. She hit a wellI compiled 27.
Women cricketers had a frustrating day on the scheduled third day of the national tournament at Logan Park and lost at least three hours play. Rain-soaked grounds delayed the start of matches for 90 minutes then a heavy thunderstorm during the afternoon tea adjournment caused the day’s play to be abandoned 90 minutes early.
Bowling honours for the abbreviated day's play went to Auckland’s Gleimis Page, with four wickets for nine from a sustained spell of accurate, good-length deliveries. North Shore is struggling desperately to put on a reasonable score against Auckland. In what could be regarded as the main match of the day Canterbury’s formidable batting line-up crumbled against a steady Wellington attack. Scores: Canterbury, first innings, 74 for six (McGregoi 27, Rattray 17, Olson 12; Dunlop 3/24, Bevege 1/18, [Lord 1/26).
