Woman caught by rip dies
PA Auckland A woman aged 21 was swep* tn her death while collecting mussels bv the bridge on Tamaki Drive at Hobson Point. Senior-Sergeant B E. Matthews, of the Auckland police, said that the woman was trying to reach the middle pier of the bridge when she was caught by a strong np. Her three woman companions were unable to help, and within minutes she was swept out among waves breaking about 700 yards off shore.
The woman apparently could not. swim. She was Hiki Edwards, of Asquith Avenue, Western Springs.
Miss Edwards's friends and an off-duty fireman hailed a passing police patrol car, and the pohee launch Deodar and small boats in the area were directed to the scene. Miss Edwards was found, but resuscitation attempts made bv a doctor in one of the boats and the crew of an ambulance on shore failed to revive her.
