A road-marking machine developed for the Brisbane City Council by a Christchurch firm was flown to Brisbane recently. The machine, built by S. Hindin and Son, is a threewheeled self-propelled vehicle, with a petrol engine which drives a hydraulic unit, and a compressor. The hydraulic front drive gives the vehicle a very small tuming circle, and it travels at

a constant speed of about Bkm/h. An electronic device allows the driver to vary the pattern of paint sprayed, and the spacing desired. The vehicle has two paint tanks to permit the use of different colours, and a hopper which contains glass beads. These can be sprayed with the paint to achieve a more reflective surface. The managing director

of S. Hindin and Son, Mr D. R. Hindin, said that the order had been given to his firm because of the experience it had in this area.
