Duties also include control and supervision of technical staff engaged in viticultural trials, provision of assistance and advice to other scientific staff on matters related to experimental programmes at Te Kauwhata Research Station and participation in training programmes for members of the grape growing industry as required. Minimum qualification required is first class stationary engine driver’s certificate, but third class marine certificate would be preferred. The shift engineer will be responsible to the senior engineer for the operation of the plant which includes a 450 p.s.i.g. boiler and a 3.25 megawatt turbo-alternator. The engineer will be on shift work on a five-man roster for approximately 10 months of the year and will be engaged ’ in maintenance on day work for the remaining two months during the plant’s annua! shutdown. The salary is in accordance with the N.Z> Institute of Marine and Power Engineers Agreement. This is a staff appointment with fringe benefits and good working conditions.
