National's first year
Sir, — Events of the last few months have vindicated the last Labour Government, and shown it to be visionary. The Canterbury Regional Planning Authority has
endorsed Rolleston as a solution to the growth problems of Christchurch. The Council of Social Services has taken up the cause of the one-income family. “Many families are living in a state of relative poverty.” Surely this was something that Labour felt deep concern about when it announced the unfairly maligned “baby bonus” scheme. The National Government has, in effect, reversed its stance on sporting contact with South Africa, but only after destroying our international reputation. Medical authorities now advocate health centres, and other recommendations, from Labour’s White Paper on Health. Inflation has exceeded 17 per cent this year; overseas borrowing has continued unabated. All this has occurred in 12 months. How much longer will New Zealanders support a visionless and morally bankrupt Government? — Yours, etc., D. J. ROWLANDS. December 17, 1976.
