Death fall in custody of police

NZPA-Reuter Port Elizabeth A Coloured (mixed-race) teacher, George Botha, aged 30, who had been detained by the South African police since last Friday, has fallen six floors to his death in Port Elizabeth. General Mike Geldenhjys, chief of the South African security police, said it appeared that Mr Botha had jumped down the stair-well of a security-police office building. He gave no reason why Mr Botha had been detained, nor any further details. Mr Botha was the eighth person this year reported to have committed suicide while in the custody of the security police.
