A move by the 30,000strong Shop Employees Association to amalgamate with the Drivers Federation and the Storemen and Packers’ Federation fotrd favour with representatives of each group at a meetMg yesterday in Wellington. The amalgamated organ-isation—-whose form is still under study—would seek improved conditions, toplevel advocacy, legal assistance in matters of industrial law, and higher wages, the national secretary of the Shop Employees Association (Mr B Alderdice) said in a statement The grouping would represent about 60.000 workers. There were to ° niany unions, and someone had to make the first step, said Mr Alderdice. Unless a federal organisation made the move, nothing would be done.
