Candyboy, Waronui fit

Special correspondent Dunedin Candyboy and Waronui were outstanding in their final trials for the James Hazlett Stakes at Wingatui tomorrow during the training on the inside grass at Wingatui yesterday. Candyboy ran 1000 metres in 1:1.5, the opening 400 in 23.9 and the last 800 in 49.6. It was an exceptional time as Jim Pankhurst had Candyboy under a hold at the finish. Waronui went a shade faster in his gallop but had company. He was travelling w’ell with a slight advantage over Flambee d’Or after taking 1:1.2. the last 800 in 49.2. It was a fine trial by Flambee d’Or for the Warrington Handicap. She may be better suited on the Wingatui track than at Beaumont and Tapanui where she has had a second and fourth in her last two starts. Ribeiro, which requires two scratchings to re-enter the Hazlett Stakes field, went about his work with zest to return 1:16 for 1200 metres. He had Yarleigh Blows for a partner until the top of the straight. Mandrake was two lengths ahead of Hairene after running 800 m in 50.6. A good fourth at Tapanui, Mandrake should be prominent hi the Waikouaiti Maiden. Minella ran 1000 m in 1:2, the opening 400 in 24. That's Life and Gate Man sped over their opening 600 m in 36.6 and completed 1200 in 1:17.5. Orient Charm indicated she had trained on since winning at Beaumont when she recorded 51.3 for 800 m. Trade Secret and Top Secret were clear of It’s Magic after* sprinting Goom in 37. L
