The Leader of the Conservative Opposition (Mrs Margaret Thatcher) has patched lup difficulties with her top Paliamentary team after a voting order caused two resignations from the Conservative Party’s panel of (spokesmen in the House of i Commons. 1 Mrs Thatcher has appointled Mr John Nott, a former; I junior Finance Minister, toi {be “shadow” Trade Secre-I I tary. i I Her two leading spokesmen on Scotland resigned on Wednesday because she had instructed all Conservative members of Parliament to vote next week against a government bill giving limited home rule to Scotland and Wales. Four more Scots in the Conservative team offered their resignations, but these were refused. Now about 20 Conservative M.P.s who are strongly in favour of directly-elected re-i gional assemblies are expected to rebel against the voting instruction. Among them will be the former Prime Minister (Mr Edward Heath), beaten nearly two years ago by Mrs Thatcher in the partv-leader-ship battle. Mrs Thatcher has managed,, to contain the rebellion — at; least so far — to only two* resignations on this emotive!
