Woman died after crash

Inquests into the deaths of five persons who died as the results of road accidents were heard at a sitting of the Coroner’s Court yesterday afternoon. In one of these, relating to an accident last April, a 35-year-old woman was killed in a multiple collision. As a result of the accident a man appeared in the Magistrate’s Court charged with driving with an excess bloodalcohol content causing death, and was sentenced to imprisonment and disqualified from driving for 10 years. The woman. Daphne Ethel Moorehead died two days after the accident as a result of multi'ple head injuries, the Coroner (Mr E. B. E. Taylor) found.

I The man charged in connection with her death had a bloodalcohol content of 252 mg. the Court was told. CRUSHED BY AUGER The Coroner found that Ronald Hayston, aged 45, an employee on a farm at Windwhistle, died as a result of severe head Injuries when he was crushed by a large grain auger that lie and his employer were towing back to their farm.

flatbed of the truck, and he employer, Francis David Bell, was driving the truck. When it went over a bump in the road, the auger shifted, crushing Mr Hayston. Mr Bell was convicted in the Magistrate’s Court on a charge of careless use of a vehicle, causing death. CYCLIST KILLED Rosalie Anne Ayers, aged 14, was killed when a car, driven by Cecil John Chamberlain, and her bicycle collided, the Coroner found. The cause of death was severe bead injuries. Mr Chamberlain said that he was driving along Sparks Road at 7.45 a.m. on August 2, with the sun shining into his eyes. He could see only about 10 yards in front of him. and did not see any cvclists until just before impact. The cyclist he hit was near the centre of the road, riding two abreast with another girl, he said. Mr Chamberlain was convicted on a charge of careless use causing death when he appeared in the Magistrate’s Court. MOTOR-CYCLIST KILLED The Coroner found that Glenn Dawson Falconer, aged 29, died from severe head injuries on July 16 after the motor-cycle he was riding was hit by a car, driven by Mark Alfred Kind Andrews, when he was making a right-hand turn. DIED AT CLUB An elderly man died from a fractured skull after he fell off a stage at the Hoon Hay Working Men’s Club billiards room on September 9. the Coroner found. He was William McGrath Mitchell, aged 75, who had been drinking at the club that afternoon. Mr Ronald George Ross, a carpenter, said that he was xUth Mr Mitchell before the accident. Mr Mitchell went towards the bar and misjudged the distance to the end of the stage, fell off it, and hit his head against a concrete wall.
