Antarctic repairs
The annual maintenance and preservation work on three historic huts in the Antarctic is being done this year by Mr A. Burton, an engineer from Kaiapoi. Each year the New Zealand Antarctic Society provides a caretaker to work on Scott’s hut at Cape Evans, Scott’s Dsicovery hut at Hut Point, and Shackleton’s hut at Cape Royds. Mr Burton, whose father was an engineer in Scott’s 'ship Terra Nova, will spend la month in the Antarctic. (When he is not working on [the huts he will look for 'relics embedded in the sur--1 rounding permafrost.
