J’burg acquittal
Four former student leaders and a university lecturer have been acquitted of charges under South Africa’s Suppression of Communism Act, the magistrate having ruled that the State failed to prove its case. Students, freinds, and relatives who had crowded the gallery of the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court to hear the verdict broke into applause and cheers when the decision was announced. — Johannesburg.
