No leads to mother of dead child
The police are still seeking the mother of the newborn baby found dead on the banks of the Heathcote River on Monday morning. Extensive inquiries had failed to trace the male child’s mother, who might be in urgent need of medical attention, the officer in charge of the investigation, Detective Inspector P. Seaman, said yesterday. Detective Inspector Seaman said the police had drawn a blank on information given by the public yesterday.
“We must rely on the public to a large extent for information on this case,” he said. “We are still interested in hearing from anyone who knows of any woman or girl who has had a child in the last two weeks, and whose babv has not been seen.”
