Children visit private park

A huanaco pup was the star attraction at Peacock Springs Wild Life Park yesterday, but this deer received its fair share of attention. These children from Room I at Redwood School

were visiting the park with more than 500 of their schoolmates. The children were invited to the park by Mr N. Isaac, a trustee for the World Wildlife Fund, to thank the children for

raising $250 for the fund. They had been presented with a shield by Sir Henry Wigley, New Zealand chairman of the World Wildlife Fund, on November 25, for their efforts. The children had plenty to see yesterday. Geese, swans, emus, deer, ponies, and other birds and animals are kept in the park. “There are no cages. We work on the concept of space” said Mr Isaac. Peacock Springs Wild-

life Park is alongside a commercial quarry. It was once a quarry itself and was landscaped by Isaac Construction Company, Ltd. The park is rarely open to the public, but the flora and fauna reserve has won its owners, Mr and Mrs Isaac, several landscape and conservation awards. The reclamation and excavation needed to restore the shingle quarry took 15 years.
