New school set to go ahead
The new 53.5 M Christchurch Girls’ High School in Deans Avenue is expected to be completed by 1982.
The school authorities have [been told that the Ministry of Works will begin sketch plans for the new school soon. These will take two years to prepare, and it will take three more years to build the school. More than 2.5 hectares will ibe available for the new school after houses adjacent to the site have been demolished. , A committee has been set I up comprising representatives of the Department of Education, the Christchurch Girls’ High School board of governors, the Ministry of Works, and the principal of the school (Miss J. D. Prisk), to consult regularly on each stage of the school’s planning. Christchurch Girls’ High School will celebrate its centenary on September 13 next year, and it is hoped to lay the foundation stone for the new school on that day.
