The first of 10 Andover aircraft recently purchased from the Royal Air Force arrived in Singapore on Monday en route from the United Kingdom to New Zealand. It is due to arrive in Auckland on Saturday, and will then be flown to Woodbourne Air Base, Blenheim, for conversion to a V.I.P. plane.

The other Andovers will be used primarily for training maintenance personnel, says the Royal New Zealand Air Force.

The Andovers will replace the R.N.Z.A.F.’s Bristol Freighter short to medium-range transport aircraft and the Dakota V.I.P. aircraft. Also aboard the aircraft are eight maintenance staff, who will train the rest of the maintenance workers required to bring both new Andover squadrons up to full strength.
