Queen to give cup for feature race
The owner of the winner of the feature race at the Metropolitan Trotting Club’s Royal meeting at Addington Raceway on March 3 next year will receive a cup provided by Queen Elizabeth as well as his share of the stake of 525.000. The race will be for three-year-old pacers and will be run over 2600 m from behind the mobile barrier.
The details of the proposed programme, which has to be approved by the Trotting Conference, were announced last evening by the president of the club, Mr Eugene McDermott.
The club proposes to run a nine-race programme starting at 5.30 p.m. with the Queen arriving at 6.20 p.m., between the second and the third races. Another feature race will be the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes, a 54500 invitation event over 2600 m for trotters.
There will also be a mobile mile event with a stake of S4OOO for C 6, C 7 and C 8 pacers. The supporting races have been named after champions such as False Step, Robalan, Johnny Globe, Van Dieman, Cardigan Bay, Lordship and Young Quinn.
