Jerry’s Best shows much ability as a trotter

i Jerry’s Best, one of five trotters to qualify at Addington Raceway yesterday, showed marked ability when he recorded 3:19 for the 2400 m, a time well beyond the capabilities of many of the pacers to race later in the day. Jerry’s Best led throughout, although Charlie Wood, which finished sixth as a pacer in the second leg of the double at Washdyke on I Tuesday, disputed much of the pace. Charlie Wood, which will now be eligible for C 3 races, was doing his work well at the end. The third place-getter, Francine, also gained an A-grade rating. Prince Larne won the third heat for pacers in the smart • time of 3:14.7. Trained by Sam Ballantyne for Mr Brian ■ Meale, Prince Lame was driven by Grant Payne, who kept him four back for much of the way. He waited on the tearaway pacemaker, Gold Abbe, until into the home straight and raced away to win most impressively. Connoisseur put in a bold effort to record the fastest time of the day in winning the sixth heat. Connoisseur, a three-year-old gelding, is a brother to Ad Infinitum. He qualified in 3:13.8 after leading for almost the entire race and had little trouble winning by two lengths and a half from Ecuador.
