New principal named for Papanui High
Mr P. R. Hay was yesterday appointed principal of Papanui High School. He will succeed Mr E. Fancy, principal of the school since 1962, who will retire in May next year. Mr Hay began teaching at Papanui High School in 1957. ; He moved to Ashburton High School in 1963 and taught at Ashburton College when the two Ashburton secondaryschool were amalgamated in 1965. After rejoining the staff of Papanui High School in 1966, Mr Hay was appointed head of the history and social studies department in 1967. In 1973 he evas appointed deputy principal of the school. During the second term last year Mr Hay was acting principal of the school when Mr Fancy was seconded to the inspectorate of the Department of Education. i Mr Hay will spend a short! time in Australia studying;
education next year on a Woolf Fisher Travelling Fellowship.
