Senior post for Registrar

A former registrar of the Magistrate’s Courts at Greymouth and Westport, Mr G. F. Soper, has been appointed Registrar of the Supreme Court at Auckland. Mr Soper, aged 45, is believed to be the youngest person to have held the Auckland position, the top registrar’s post in Magistrate’s Courts throughout the country. He was born and educated in Gore, and began his court career as a cadet clerk in the Magistrate’s Court and the Supreme Court at Christchurch in 1950. Mr Soper’s first posting as

a registrar came in 1964, when he was promoted from Deputy Registrar in Grey, (mouth to Registrar at Huntly. From there he moved to Westport in 1966 and in early 1970 became Registrar of the Magistrate's Court and the Supreme (Court at Greymouth. Later that year be became Regis, trar at Wellington. In his new position at the head of the largest Magistrate’s Court in New Zealand, Mr Soper will be responsible for the work and administration of all courts, and a staff of 145.
