One man convicted
After a defended hearing in ■ the Magistrate's Court in which; tour Fijian Indians were‘charged , with assault, Mr F. G. Paterson.; S.M., entered convictions for j inly one of the defendants. The defendants were all formerly employed by the Nassella Tussock Board at Cheviot. They were Pedro Nodrokoro, iged 25, charged with assault , ind injuring with intent, ( Savenaca Delaivatuba, aged 36, • barged with assault. Pita ialeibaravi, aged 33, charged vith assault, and Sevanaia xinkinilau, aged 34, who . ippeared on two charges of issault. The charges against KiniI linilau were withdrawn by I sergeant B. G. Saunders half- ! vay through the hearing and in ; iis decision on the case, the l Magistrate found the case • igainst Baleibaravi not proved, [e also dismissed Delaivatuba i vithout conviction. i Evidence given by prosecution fitnesses had been that • on j October 26 at the Nassella Tus I ock camp hostel at Cheviot both • he manager of the camp, Barry i kblan Westbrook, and anothe? : ’ijian Indian at the camp had >een assaulted by the defenlants. It was said that Mr Westbrook lad been punched and when the second complainant, Jerito 1 Lobelobelala came to his aid he j had been hit with a atone by ■ Pedro Nodrakoro. Mr D. F. Caygill represented jail the defendants.
