Walker, Quax special
Television Two has signed up the Olympic medallists, John Walker and Dick Quax for its “Superstars” programme next February. The channel’s community programmes manager (Don Hutchings) said the two athletes had confirmed their participation. He was confident a dozen of the country’s top sportsmen would be signed up before Christmas to compete for the
DB Travel Hotels’ 512.000 prize money., “Superstars” is modelled on top rating British and American series of the same name. It consists of a four-day decathlon in which the elite of New Zealand sportsmen will compete to find the country’s “superstar.” Although events have not been finalised, Hutchings said they would probably include swimming,
cycling, golf and track and field events. He said there would be three major prizes and in keeping with the amateur status of the participants, the prize money would go to the charity or sporting organisation of 'the three winners’ choice. “Superstars” will be held in Christchurch from February 1 to 4. Television Two will tape the four-day event which will be edited to a 50-min special and six 30-min programmes.
