Water supply design
Design of a high pressure water supply for Hornby and Sockbum residents is in its final stages. Variable speed pumps will pump 12,500 gallons a minute into a 1.4 M gallon reservoir ion the Halswell spur to the I east of Kennedys Bush Road, the chairman of the Sockbum District County Council Mr E. C. Britnell told the body’s annual meeting. A 23in diameter pipe will run from the reservoir to Wigram Road, and there is provision for installation of thousands of feet of 12in, 15in. and 18in diameter balancing mains. Two pumping stations, one in Sockbum yard and one in Denton Park, each having four or more .deep wells will feed into ' ground storage reservoirs and ; then into the speed pumps, i The original estimate of cost in 1973 was 51.86 M. Now the estimate is $3.53M.
