$50,000 for Y.M.C.A.
PA Wellington The Sutherland Self Help Trust Board has announced grants totalling $175,150 to various charitable, medical, and recreational groups. The largest grant, $50,000, has gone to the Y.M.C.A. to provide transport, equpiment and development materials for 15 centres from Invercargill to Auckland. The Intellectually Handicapped Society will receive $41,000 for various activities at branch level throughout New Zealand.
Christchurch will get $20,000 towards the Canterbury I.H.C. hostel and $BOOO will go towards an I.H.C. workshop in Greymouth. Grants of $2600 and $lOOO respectively have also been made for the publication of an I.H.C. book and special conference expenses. Birthright will get $lO,OOO towards the cost of holidays for single-parent families, while similar grants have also gone to the Outward Bound Trust towards a new. escort vessel, and the Salvation Army for an emergencv lodge in Masterton and a children’s home in Temuka. Other grants include $5500 to the Christchurch Clinical School for diabetic education equipment
