S.A. Open to Player
NZPA-Reuter Durban Gary Player won the South African Open golf championship yesterday for a record tenth time, finishing six strokes clear with a 72 hole total of 280. The South African started the last day one stroke ahead of the local amateur, David Suddards, who ended as joint runner-up with fellow countryman Bobby Verwey. Player bettered Bobby Locke’s previous record of nine Open victories. Nick Job, of Britain, was the best overseas finisher with a 71 for 290 and a shared seventh place.
