S.C.F. appeal for Lebanese
The North Canterburybranch of the Save the Children Fund hopes to raise j enough money to send ai nurse and possibly' medical; equipment to east Beirut. j Appeals have been j launched all over the world I to raise the $120,000 that, will be needed for medical aid in Beirut during the next six months. The appeal for funds is urgent because present and forecast funds had already been committed to other programmes, says the New Zea-
’;land president of the S.C.F. .■(Mrs V. C. Foster). ,; The need in Beirut for medical assistance is “desperyate,” according to Mrs A. Street, the overseas commitjtee chairman of S.C.F., who i recently returned from Leba|non. S.C.F. will send two medical teams to Beirut—one to . work with the Christians . and the other with the Moslems.
The main hospital in east Beirut, which has one pediatric nurse and is taking about 80 casualties a night, will get three nurses.
