Council rejects loan ad. plan
The Heathcote County ‘Council is not in favour of a national publicity campaign aimed at stimulating private investment in local (authority loans. • The finance committee has (recommended that the council advise the New Zealand ‘Counties’ Association that it I does not support such a campaign and it will not (make any financial contribution to it.
i The campaign is likely to cost about $15,000. The Counties’ Association wanted to know how much the coun-
cil would contribute to it. The county clerk (Mr K. D. Stills) said the publicity campaign could be over by the time the council was willing to raise a loan, and any advantage such a campaign might have was only minimal. “We are not likely to be in the market for a loan for a considerable time to come, so that by the time we are any advantage gained by the publicity will have been lost,” he said. | The council had never [before spent money on advertising for its loans.
