Oil spill cleaned up quickly
An oil spill from the tanker British Fern which occurred on Friday evening when she was discharging 50t)0 tonnes of petroleum products will not result in a prosecution. The Harbourmaster (Captain D. Holdem said that the spill was small and because of the prompt action of the ship’s master in notifying the harbour board and in cleaning up the spill he would not press charges. Not all of the slick was broken up by the ship’s efforts because in the darkness it could not be seen. In the morning it had reached across to Gladstone Pier but it was soon taken care of bv the harbour board, said Captain Holden. ARRIVALS Var (8.49 a.m.), 7799, Continent (W.N.M.A.).
