Consumer to hold joint tests
PA Auckland Consumer power is going international. That was the message from the director of the New Zealand Consumers’ Institute (Mr R. J. Smithies), after he had attended a seminar in Penang of the Pacific and Asian regions of the Organisation of Consumer Unions. He said that next year the first international consumer test would probably take place. European consumer organisations planned to combine to test outboard engines. The test would take into consideration the needs of specific countries, and the results would be available to consumer organisations throughout the world. Mr Smithies said international co-operation would make testing a lot cheaper, and give a consistency of approach. ' He said similar co-opera-i tion was also happening i regionally. The New Zealand consumer organisation had recently tested kerosine (cookers on behalfof its Fiji counterpart.
