Newton 19-under
NZPA Sydney A machine-like Jack Newton powered his way to a record-shattering final round of 66 for a massive 10 strokes win in the SAust 25,000 New South Wales Open at the Royal Sydney club yesterday. Newton finished with a superb four round total of 269, 19 under par, and defied aching legs and poor weather which washed out one day’s play. Twice winner of the event, Ted Ball, and the young Tasmanian professional, David Good, shared second place with a four round aggregate of 279, nine under part for the tournament, with Gosford professional Billy Dunk another four strokes away. Richard Coombes, of New Zealand finished the final round with a total score of 296, well behind the leaders.
