Cycling tour to Jesson

PA Invercargill Covering every possible move in an action-filled final day on Saturday, Jaul Jesson of Canterbury, won the Rothmans three-day cycling tour of Southland by 52 seconds from Blair Stockwell, in perfect conditions. Jesson took over the lead as the field headed out of Lumsden on Saturday morning, after riding consistently throughout the first five stages. On Saturday afternoon he was in a leading bunch of seven riders who broke away from the rest shortly after the start of the last stage, once the break became established, it was clearly Jessen’s tour. For Jesson, it was an intelligent effort. He did not win • stage and, over the whole tour, did not win a hill-climb and had his only single success when he took out the Wreys Bush sprint on the second day.
