Bedi will lead India

The left-hand slow bowler, Bishen Singh Bedi, was yesterda„ named as India’s captain for the first two tests against the touring New Zealand cricket team next month.
Mr Ghulam Ahmed, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, said the selection committe! would decide later on India’s captain for the third test against New Zealand and for the five test series against the M.C.C. later this winter. The announcement came as a surprise. Cricket followers had expected Bedi to be named as captain for the full series against both countries.
He led the Indian team on Its tours of New Zealand and the West Indies earlier this year.
