Veteran scores century

Thirty-one seasons ago, Cliff Snook scored a century for the Hxgn School Old Boys senior team against Lancaster Park. On Saturday, in the more modest surrounds of the president’s cricket grade, he showed that he still has many more runs to offer his clun.

Snook, who made more than 150 appearances for Old Boys in his long senior career, and contributed two half-centuries to Canterbury sides, reached 134 in the first innings win over Riccarton at Hospital Corner. The other centuries were by Ken Congdon (Sydenham, second grade), who extended his unbeaten 68 to 101 not out against East-Shirley, and the R.N.Z.A.F., eighth-grade batsman, T. Horne, with 103 against St Albans. Two others were close to three figures: C. Clark, 97 for Kiccarton against Old Boys in the seventh grade, and the former test pace bowler, Gary Bartlett (St Albans), who took his overnight 58 to 95 in a third-grade match against Lancaster Park. The most successful bowler of the day w’as Robert Schumacher, who captured eight wickets for the East-Shirley seventh-grade side against Burnside-West Lower grade scores.— Second grade
